Hi Janice. ...Yes our family lived in the huts waiting for PMQ. We were in Shilo approx from ‘51 to ‘61. Dad was in RCASC. We lived in a small forest built PMQ on South side first. It had a coal fired furnace. What a mess we were when we played in small basement amongst the coal crib. .....Only time I ever can remember being lost was last day we lived there. Dad was often the school bus driver and was on ambulance duty when we moved to #7 Unique Ave.. I was in kindergarten if I remember correctly and the other bus driver dropped me off at that smaller PMQ unbenounced to him that My family moved that day to Ubique. ....All went well and I got safely home to my new ‘digs’. ...I remember waiting and wondering but somehow new it was ok because Shilo always looked after us kids. ..Chuckle the ‘ Meatheads, ( a term I always use endearingly) always saved the day. They came along and gave me a nice warm ride home in a shiny new Chev Panel Wagon.
Ubique Ave. PMQ was larger and closer to School and many more friends there to play with as I grew up. ....I see Danny Taylor writes in here. In those days his family was friends of ours. As were the Martins the Findlays the Whitings. The Otts the Turner family.
We left there in ‘61 and headed back to Nova Scotia roots. I finished high school there in Bedford NS. Went into RCAF in ‘66. Dad and a Mum went on to several years in the Militia after that.
Us as children had many fond memories of good old Camp Shilo. Never missed the cold and snow tho. Nor the gophers the flies or the grass hoppers. We the Chidren were Ernie, Myself (Bump) and Sister aGail and Roseanne and brother Guy and Clay and baby Brent.
I certainly remember those old ‘H’ hit PMQ’s.

Are there any of you who lived in the Huts? Any of you from PEPs in 1956-59 still around? Just found this site up and running. Thought it had died. Great Site. Cheers, Janice--brothers Dwight and Mark. We were one of first families to occupy PMQ's.... after A-1 in the huts.

Once in a while stories come along that are inspirational. ShiloBrats new Special Edition feature puts the 'SPOTLIGHT' on them. When the announcement was made that Mr. Gerald Brown (former Shilo teacher) was to be recognized with an 'Alumni Award for Exceptional Service' from Brandon University, we knew there was a story. Mr. Brown is ShiloBrats teacher liaison, and was instrumental for having Miss Sheehan and a dozen other former Shilo teachers attend our recent Reunions. Turned out there was more than one story. Check out ShiloBrats new Special Edition 'SPOTLIGHT' feature at What's New.

Well here I am again advising of another Shilobrats passing away. I received a call earlier today from Barb Clark, the younger sister of Brian Smith. Barb advises that Brian passed away this morning in hospital in Winnipeg. As everyone who attended the Shilobrats reunion in Winnipeg in August knows Brian was in failing health. It was heartening to see that Brian met up with many old friends from his Shilo days. I know that he had a great time. I, for one, will miss him very much.
There is no funeral planned at this time.

Take care,

Alf

I received an email yesterday from Kathleen (McKenzie) Vaillancourt, a Shilobrat. She asked if I could advise Shilobrats that knew her brother, Ron Mckenzie, who attended PEHS from the mid to late 1960's, of his passing. Ron had been in failing health for the last year or so and passed away earlier this week in Calgary. Our thoughts go out to Ron's family.

Hey, Doug-tell your brother that he will be performing in 2020!

Harv and I will "hijack" him and deliver him to the venue via "BratsAir".

Boyd is not available for a week or two and then we start planning for 2020 depending on the response we get. My brother thought 2018 was his last gig. I think I have talked him into a second "final" gig as Fabulous George in 2020. Of course we were in the Fort Garry at the time and we were into our cups.

Watch the guest book in November / December for details
